So what did we achieve?

  • We had at least one woman riding every day, whatever the weather, following Billie's routes for the whole year!

  • We had over 400 riders take part all over the UK !

  • We had riders taking part in USA, Spain, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa and India!

  • Together we rode over 107,000 miles!

  • We made a lot of new friends!

  • Many women have started or rekindled their interest in cycling to keep fit

  • Although our average daily qualifying mileage didn't quite match Billie's record, we did just about everything else we set out to do and we had a lot of fun doing it!

  • So well done and thankyou to everyone who took part!

The 2015 Billie Fleming Tribute Ride
image ....it started with a short obituary tweet from cycling weekly with a link to an article written by Dave Barter about Billie Fleming: The Keep-Fit Girl, who cycled the most miles in a single year. I read on, feeling intrigued to know more & later compelled to ride her route. The wonders of social media meant I was quickly in contact with Dave - he shared his sources and much of his research with me; that turned my ideas into a plan for The Billie Fleming Tribute Ride. Dave's research was for his book The Year now published & dedicated to Billie ;-) You have been part of the story making the tribute ride happen. I thought you might like the herstory!
